The inclusion of students with disabilities into mainstream classrooms is important for the educational and social development of students with and without disabilities alike. Countless studies have identified how students without disabilities benefit from having students with disabilities in the classroom by improving tolerance and acceptance. Students with disabilities benefit by being accepted by their peers and making friends without disabilities. Of course, participating in the mainstream classroom also ensures that students with disabilities receive a quality education as well.

Why would someone oppose inclusive education?
Some education advocates believe that students with disabilities provide a larger distraction than the benefit to a mainstream classroom. Others believe that students with disabilities could receive a more specialized education in a separate environment. Both of these group advocate for students with disabilities either being fully educated in separate classrooms or at the very least being pulled out of class to receive specialized instruction. Both situations result in students with disabilities missing out on valuable classroom content and socialization with peers.
